NSPCC The London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was founded in 1884. It changed its name to The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in 1889. Its aim then was to protect children from cruelty, support vulnerable families, campaign for changes to the law and raise awareness about abuse. Today, the NSPCC looks very different, but its purpose remains the same: to end cruelty to children.

Barnardo's Barnardo's is a British charity founded by the Irish Doctor Thomas John Barnardo in 1866, to care for vulnerable children and young people. As of 2007, it spends over £195 million each year on 394 projects aimed at helping these same groups. Barnardo's is based in Barkingside in the London Borough of Redbridge in East London. Today, the charity works with disabled children, victims of sexual abuse, mental health problems, homeless children, and children and young people affected by HIV and AIDS.
